Dispatcher in Guilford, CT
The school bus industry has a high turnover rate as a whole. Bus drivers are all part time and usually competing for extra work. They can be vicious. As a dispatcher, I am responsible for trying to maintain some amount of order. It’s like herding cats. Most of the drivers are polite and professional, but a few can weigh on you.
I have been fortunate to have a wonderful counterpart. They are the other dispatcher in the yard. Management within the yard was questionable at first, with a manager who was the most unprofessional person I’ve ever experienced. It was one of the worst work environments I had ever worked in. Just after the holidays she was let go. Since then the work environment has improved greatly. The general manager of the company is in the office daily, trying to repair the damages incurred by the former manager. As to be expected, this has obviously created tension in the the yard, but we are working through it. My overall experience with Specialty Transportation has been positive. I look forward to seeing my coworkers and drivers each day. It’s not the best job I have ever worked, but I am not disappointed. I would recommend anyone to at least give Specialty a chance.
Spare Van Driver (backup) in Berlin, CT
Ok 1st job to get minimal experience but that’s about it, definitely favoritism throughout company. As a driver if you don’t have a dedicated route be prepared to just sit around for hours of no call outs or runs open up. Also more importantly you always need a monitor on your vehicle regardless of what they say, YOU’RE the driver not management. Safety 1st! Some riders with special needs may require more attention than others and could get anxious disruptive physical etc..(not their fault) but having that knowledge Specialty still will take away a monitor due to staffing issues etc.
STUDENT DRIVER in Berlin, CT
Would not recommend working here to anyone ! Very hostile environment and management very unprofessional with others especially the ladies. Office staff treat others with very little respect. Feels like walking into a high school everyday with the drama that goes on here. Working for Specialty Transportation is far from the working environment it should be. The management in this company is very poor. Long hours without being properly compensated.
Mechanics Helper in Hartford, CT
Decent place to start but not stay unless u have sum sort of secret keeping u from advancing in the industry. Poor management, only listens to the guy that shoves his nose up the managers bum and that guy is a racists jerk. You have to caress a lot of egos and it becomes frustrating and distracting when the guy training you cuts corners all day long and then wants to point fingers at u
